Robin Hood (Dramatic Adaptation by Ralph Rose) Basil Rathbone with supporting cast Male chorus directed by Tudor Williams Brass choir conducted by James Stagliano Recorded February 13, 1945, in CBS Studios, Hollywood, California, on Columbia 78-rpm matrices XHCO 1263 through XHCO 1270. Issued late in 1945 as Columbia Masterworks Set M-583 (records 7432-M through 7435-M), and in automatic sequence as Set MM-583 (records 7436-M through 7439-M). The supporting cast is as follows: Sheriff of Nottingham: Raymond Lawrence Will Stutley, Prisoner: Jay Novello Friar Tuck, Luke the Reid, Stranger [King Richard]: Ramsay Hill Allan-a-Dale, Second Deputy: Tom Collins Much, First Deputy: John Goldsworthy Little John, Second Man: Marvin Miller Young Gilbert, Ballantine: Jack Edwards, Jr. Maid Marian: Joy Harrington Herald, First Man: Harry Bartell The songs in this production are as follows: 1. Opening song - seems to be derived from Child Ballad No. 131, "Robin Hood and the Ranger." Different verses of this recur throughout the recording. 2. "Light Foot Upon The Dancing Green" - from Sir Arthur Sullivan's opera "Ivanhoe," Act III. 3. "Greensleeves" - sung as a tenor solo with choral accompaniment. 4. "Ho, Jolly Jenkin" - from Sullivan's "Ivanhoe," Act II. 5. "The Keeper" (Among The Leaves So Green-O) - another Elizabethan tune. 6. "Hey, Jolly Robin" - from Edward German's operetta "Merrie England." 7. "Agnus Dei" - unidentified setting.
